Abstract: This paper proposes a benchmarking model useful to rank and select aircraft used in the freight industry. The decision-making problem of aircraft ranking and selection is addressed by implementing an extension of Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA), i.e. the cross-efficiency calculation. DEA efficiency is a useful indicator to evaluate the value for money of an aircraft in the freight industry and its extension - the cross-efficiency measurement makes it possible to rank aircraft according to this value for money measurements. A sample of 22 air freighters is used to analyze the model validity. DEA scores show that 4 aircraft models only are evaluated as being full 100% efficient, and some old models (i.e., DC 9-10F) are as efficient as the recent aircraft models sold in the market (A300F and A330-200F).

Abstract: Integration and splitting are business strategies commonly used by enterprise. This study discusses the impact of the integration and splitting of hospitals from the point of view of efficiency. After using super CCR and context-dependent CCR to assess the performance in various cases, this study finds that the average efficiency of the subsidiary hospitals has been improved after the integration of Chang Gung Memorial Hospital. However, the integration has no significant impact on the efficiency of Chang Gung Memorial hospital itself. Chi Mei Medical Center has improved its efficiency after splitting while the efficiency of Chung Shan Hospital after splitting is worse. Hospital integration should be based on functional complementation, and hospital splitting depends on whether the organizational structure can effectively distribute the current resources to achieve efficient operational performance.

Abstract: A four-stage methodological framework useful to analyze the performance of a product development process, with a focus on the information flow inefficiencies is presented. The formal and informal communication exchange between interacting tasks is captured through the Dependency Structure Matrix (DSM) representation, while the properties of the information flow structure are explored calculating metrics of Social Network Analysis (SNA). Information exchange inefficiency of process tasks is calculated performing Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA).

Abstract: In order to guarantee manufacturing enterprise to choose the most effective manufacturing mode it’s essential to evaluate relative effectiveness of manufacturing mode of manufacturing system. A fuzzy data envelopment analysis/assurance region evaluation method is proposed. Assurance region prevents input and output parameters from being ignored or interdependent in excess during the process of evaluating manufacturing modes. Triangular fuzzy number is adopted to represent uncertain input and output parameters of complex manufacturing system. By introducing cuts to calculate upper and lower bound of fuzzy effectiveness of manufacturing mode. Ranking method based on fuzzy effectiveness bound is provided to determine the manufacturing mode with the optimal relative performance. An example demonstrates the validity of proposed method.

Abstract: Current use of excessive oil and natural gas is causing the greenhouse effect, the destruction of the Earth's ecology, and the increase in disaster crises. Many countries are forced to start looking for new alternative sources of energy to prevent irreversible environmental problems. Taiwan is an island belonging to subtropical area with abundant sunshine, and it is very suitable for the development of solar energy.Due to the effect of high atmosphericpressures in summer and continental cold masses in winter, coupled with complex terrain, different weather phenomena exist in the northern and southern Taiwan, and the weather, temperature, sunlight and rainfall are different in different places.Before setting up a solar plant, a good assessment and planning is necessary to prevent a waste in financial and natural resources in the future. This research first uses literature review to search for the important factors, and experts are invited to confirm the factors.Data envelopment analysis (DEA) is then applied to assess and analyze which areas in Taiwan are most appropriate for setting up solar plants.Results of the study shall provide solar industry for reference for sustainable development.

Abstract: This paper presents a benchmarking study that measures operational efficiency of water service providers. The problem of measuring the operational efficiency of water suppliers is addressed by adopting a non parametric approach based on Data Envelopment Analysis. The benchmarking model uses both physical infrastructure network and financial variables. The model is implemented calculating efficiencies of 53 Italian service providers. Results show that there are important operational inefficiencies, mostly due to scale diseconomies.

Abstract: This paper takes cascade hydropower station project as the research object. It puts forward an economic post project evaluation of hydropower station`s analysis framework -- "static analysis and comprehensive evaluation" based on building the evaluation index set and data envelopment analysis. This paper takes economic post project evaluation of Yuanshui cascade hydropower station as an example to verify the science and effectiveness of the analysis framework and model. The results enrich the theory and model technique of economic post project evaluation of hydropower stations.

Abstract: Using non-parametric Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA) method, the paper evaluates the efficiency of foreign-invested manufacturing enterprises in Hubei. The results indicate that the efficiency of foreign-invested manufacturing enterprises in Hubei is not high, and the trend is increasing returns to scale.Finally,through the projection analysis, the paper puts forward the countermeasure.

Abstract: The paper constructed an coordination evaluation model which measures the coordinated development status of the development system of Chinese greenfood industry and its subsystems,and established an index evaluation system from the perspective of system. A DEA approach is used to provide evidence for the coordinated development of the scale subsystem and the structure-efficiency subsystem based on the data from the greenfood industry in Heilongjiang province. The results suggest that there exists a dramatic fluctuation of the coordination of the greenfood industry system and its subsystem,and that the coordination degree of the greenfood industry is not so satisfying,in particular there is a downtrend in the coordinated development of the greenfood industry. Further research suggest that it’s feasible to transform the mode of industry development and to enhance the coordination degree of the subsystems,especially the structure-efficiency subsystem to realize the coordinated and sustainable development of the Chinese greenfood industry.

Abstract: According to the method of principal component analysis (PCA) with the data of Tianjin marine economy from 2000 to 2010, this paper established six comprehensive indices of input-output about complex sustainable development system. On this basis, the study used the data envelopment analysis (DEA model) and the adjustment of the variables in the model, to evaluate the overall level of Tianjin marine economy sustainable development. The conclusion is that marine economy of Tianjin city has the ability and the basis of sustainable development. The stress of marine economy sustainable development must rely on the optimization of input-output structure and increasing utilization ratio of resources and environment.
