Abstract: The gray prediction theory has already been widely applied to solving all kinds of social, scientific and technical problems. It is also used for the prediction of engineering mechanical and material scientific problems. But the traditional gray prediction model is applicable only for equidistant time sequences. In order to extend the scope of application, an improved gray prediction model is put forward. By weighted summation, the new developed gray prediction model can also be applied to the situation of non-equidistant time sequence. The improved gray prediction model is used for the prediction of creep fracture time of rocks and gypsum. The deduced results are proven to be very accurate. The research work of the current paper opens many opportunities for further thoughts of the prediction of many other engineering mechanical problems.

Abstract: Purpose – Only limited attention has been paid to the issue of Measurement Data Quality (MDQ) in a metrology context. To address this critique of the literature a methodology to assure MDQ was proposed. Methodology – The study proposes a methodology which consists of four steps can be used to 1 identify the importance of a measurement (identification), 2 determine accuracy and precision (determination), 3 evaluate the criticality of the measurement to its impact on the final result (evaluation) and 4 record the facts that influenced the decision making process (documentation). Findings –When followed and properly documented, these four steps can help ensure our measurements are valid and worthwhile. Identifying the important measurements that are made, determining the level of accuracy required and then using the proper tools to make the measurements will yield valid, useful results.

Abstract: Distance evaluation and its improved algorithms using Vertical distance instead of Euclidean distance were discussed in engineering materials selection. Taking the selection of materials for low temperature storage container as an example, based on eight kinds of evaluation indices, according to the weight obtained by AHP method, ten kinds of candidate materials were evaluated by using distance evaluation and its improved algorithms. The results indicate that, the optimal material selected coincides with the practice of industry, and the sequence of the candidate materials arranged using improved algorithms is more reliable, which shows that improved algorithms of distance evaluation is a feasible and effective way for engineering materials selection.

Abstract: Engineering materials suppliers' selections directly affect the quality of the construction and economic benefits. Based on the basic principles and methods of the value engineering theory, this paper discussed the application method and basic steps of the value engineering in engineering material supplier optimization program. Combined with practical engineering, the optimal scheme of concrete material supplier is an example. The results showed that, using the basic method of the value engineering theory, through the function evaluation, cost evaluation and value evaluation coefficient calculation, can determine the optiaml material supplier and provide scientific and reasonable basis.

Abstract: To evaluate the erosion of various engineering materials subject to cavitation in laboratory, a ultrasonic vibratory apparatus (UVA-1) is designed and manufactured according to ASTM G 32-06. The principle and setup of the UVA-1 are briefed. Some utilities of this apparatus are listed with several good examples.

Abstract: Rail transit is the most effective way to solve the urban traffic problem. However, due to the large initial investment and plenty of engineering materials it needs, it is valuable to study the problem on the return of the investment benefit. The paper first proves that the benefit of the construction of the rail transit will be the increased value of the land along the rail, and the benefit can be considered as the difference between the land prices before and after the opening of the rail. Secondly, based on this theory, by taking Dalian LRT NO.3 as the case study, a practical Hedonic Approach model is developed. And then, the influence of the being planned Dalian LRT NO.4 on the land price is calculated.

Abstract: This article describes the structure of pure water hydraulic external gear pump, structural design and calculation of parameters,analysises the mai spare part material of pure water hydraulic external gear pump and determines the type of the new engineering materials. Besides the surface treatment process of pump are discussed. Pure water hydraulic external gear pump is simulated by FLUENT, obtaining the parameters of the influence of the pump's performance.
