Abstract: Based on the relationship between complex frequency and hysteresis damping coefficient, the formula of equivalent damping ratio of concrete-filled steel tubular arch bridge is deduced. Compared the calculated equivalent damping ratio by finite element model with the measured result, it is shown that the formula deduced in this paper is simple and practical, and can satisfy the engineering demand. At last, the formula given in this paper is closely related to hysteresis damping coefficient of material, with different hysteresis damping coefficient, the equivalent damping ratio will differ a lot.

Abstract: Soilbags have been understood to have the effect of vibration reduction and can be used as a kind of base isolation in building foundations. In this paper, a series of cyclic simple shear tests were carried out on soilbags filled with three kinds of soils under different vertical stresses to investigate the damping and stiffness characters of the soilbags. The results show that soilbags have a relatively high damping ratio and variable horizontal stiffness so that they can be used as base isolation materials.

Abstract: Today, the structures constituted by different materials, increase more and more, especially the lower part is concrete, the upper is steel. For this type of structural system, modal damping matrix is non-diagonal matrix, the earthquake response equation is coupled on the modal damping matrix, the modal coupling of the non-proportional damping system leads to the traditional real modal analysis methods not be directly applied. For such structure, the changes of the damping ratio are analyzed in this article. Finally, the equivalent damping ratio of Shenzhen Airport is obtained using the energy theory.

Abstract: The increase in the structural damping ratio can make the degree of seismic response lower, while the damping ratio causes the seismic response differently in the different national specification. The paper first introduces the principle of equivalent damping ratio of the seismic response calculation methods in seismic specification of China and Japan, then analyzes and compares reduction of seismic response caused by the equivalent damping ratio in seismic specification of China and Japan by calculating data.

Abstract: Study the calculation method of equivalent damping ratio in Capacity Spectrum Method. Analyzing the feature of several methods for the calculation of equivalent damping ratio in the world, from the numeral example, the numeral results of several calculation methods of equivalent damping ratio are compared to the results of time course method. The follow conclusions are reached: Secant stiffness method overestimate the value of equivalent damping ratio for steel structure, therefore, underestimate the supreme seismic reaction. The level of underestimate is interrelate to yield still coefficient; Under the medium earthquakes effect, all the method can fairly good forecast the supreme seismic reaction; But Under the large earthquakes effect, only the Kwan (EP) method can give the best result. The conclusions has impotent value for the perfect of Performance-Based Seismic Design Methods.
