Abstract: An approximate analytical method is presented to analyze reliability for the structure with fuzzy-random uncertainty in basic variables. On the basis of equivalent transformation from fuzzy possibility distribution (FPD) to random probability distribution (RPD), this contribution expands first order and second moment method (FOSM) for random reliability to that for fuzzy-random reliability. The expanded FOSM is illustrated by the way of the fuzzy-random low fatigue life reliability analysis about an aeronautical engine disk affected by fuzzy-random uncertainty. Comparison between the FOSM and the numerical simulation for the fuzzy-random reliability demonstrates the precision of the presented computational model.

Abstract: To provide guidance to engineering practice, the reliability of the vertical bearing capacity of single steel pipe pile is analyzed. The FOSM method, the FOSM method based on fuzzy stochastic and the FOSM method based on artificial neural network are used to calculate the reliability of steel pipe pile through MATLAB program. It is show that the FOSM method based on fuzzy stochastic and the FOSM method based on artificial neural network are more suitable for the reliability analysis.

Abstract: Due to the uncertainty of variables in durability model, the probabilistic approach is increasing. Monte Carlo Simulation (MCS) is an easily accessible method, but requires a lot of repeated operations. This paper evaluated the effectiveness of First Order Second Moment method (FOSM), which is more convenient and time saving method than MCS, to predict the corrosion initiation in harbor concrete structure. Mean Value First Order Second Moment method (MV FOSM) and Advanced First Order Second Moment method (AFOSM) are applied to the error function solution of Fick's second law modeling chloride diffusion. Reliability index and failure probability based on MV FOSM and AFOSM are compared with the results by MCS. The comparison showed that AFOSM and MCS predict similar reliability indexes and MV FOSM underestimates the probability of corrosion initiation by chloride attack. Also, the sensitivity of variables in durability model to failure probability was evaluated on the basis of AFOSM. The results showed that AFOSM is a simple and efficient method to estimate the possibility of corrosion initiation in harbor concrete structures.
