Abstract: There is a global trend in seeking plant fibers to replace the synthetic fibers to obtain reinforced composites, aiming the use of renewable resources. In this context, this paper objective is to develop the process of corn leaf fibers preparations , characterize and adapt them for applications in the construction industry. Corn leaves were dried in room temperature, treated by mercerising (chemical process of attack on the fiber surface making it rough); then neutralized with acid solution and washed in running water. The characterization of the corn leaf fibers was performed by X-ray diffraction, X-ray fluorescence Spectrometry, Scanning Electron Microscopy, Thermogravimetry, specific mass and Fourier Transform Infrared Spectrometry. The mercerizing treatment was effective, because the corn fibers have similar characteristics to synthetic fibers, leading to a possibility of new technological uses, besides the application in gas pipe manufacturing

Abstract: The fiber optic sensor measuring system based on the Mech-Zehnder interferometry is developed in the paper. The system can be used for the strain and vibration measurement of engineering structure, and has the advantages: convenient adjusting, stable performance and strong ability of anti-interference, etc. Therefore the fiber optic sensor has been widely used in the engineering field. First the system is introduced into measuring the frequency and amplitude of the vibration subjected to force of the FRP-concrete beam. The fiber optic sensor measuring system and the electronic measuring system are synchronous used for the measurement. The analysis results of fiber optic sensor measurement approximate to the results of electronic strain gauge. Then the system is introduced into experimental stress analysis on the gas pipe, good results is obtained too. The paper provides new technical equipment for the experimental testing of various engineering structure using fiber optic sensor, also establishes the technical foundation of the research of smart structure.

Abstract: Characteristics of elemental fluorine and carbon-fluorine bonds were analyzed. The barrier and oil-resistance properties of direct fluorination of HDOE were unveiled from molecule structure. The HDPE surface fluorination results in the increase of surface energy, cross link to some extent and shrinkage of polymer free volume.The application of direct fluorination of HDPE in oil in oil & gas storage and transportation fields were reviewed, including oil and gas pipe,plastic petrol-tanks and HDPE impermeable membrane applied in oil tank foundation. After direct fluorination processing, the anti-corrosion and the permeability to hydrocarbons of HDPE pipes are strengthened. With the development of technology, it will be the trend that the multi-layer fuel tanks replace the single layer fuel tanks. The HDPE is applied as the outermost layer of multi-layer structure to ensure the processing property and the impact resistance in low temperature.

Abstract: A TR and ultrasonic focusing wheel probe is designed for some special engineering testing item. Ultrasonic TR thickness testing and focusing detection can be carried out without coupling medium. With the testing system and the probe set on a control machine car, aligned and marginal testing for steel plates quality and the thickness testing of corroded pipe wall can be accomplished by dry couple method. The processing method of detection signal and the design of peripheral circuit are also introduced in this paper.
