Abstract: In this paper, a case study on replacing the existing insulating material (Mineral wool) by the Silica Aerogel in the main steam line (MSL) of the thermal power plant is presented.A sample length of 3 m in MSL was insulated with various thicknesses of silica aerogel, mineral wool and the combinations of mineral wool and silica aerogel. The heat loss in the sample length with different insulating material was calculated by carrying out field experiments. The results show that the silica aerogel is providing better insulation than the mineral wool. Nonetheless, the use of silica aerogel is expensive. To bring down the cost, hybrid insulation with the optimal thickness of silica aerogel + mineral wool + silica aerogel was suggested. This hybrid combination considerably reduced the heat loss and improved the thermal efficiency. The payback period for this implementation was reported.

Abstract: The objective of this study is to verify energy performance of passive office building compared to existing building using computer simulation tool, EnergyPlus. S building was selected as a passive office building, which is the first passive office building in KOREA, and the building satisfy the passive house standard. The annual energy consumption data were compared to the heating and cooling load result of EnergyPlus, to verify simulation accuracy. The conditions of existing building were selected from Korean envelope standard and the categories of the conditions are the insulation thickness and glazing composition. As a result, the passive office showed 28% reduced energy consumption, compared to the existing building, with ordinary envelope under Korean building envelope standard.

Abstract: Using insulation slurry as composite material, the wall-shaped support spacer was designed and fabricated on the cathode back-plane. In the fabrication course of support spacer, the high effective screen-printing technique was employed to prepare the insulation slurry layer on the separation layer surface of cathode back-plane. And the conventional sintering process was utilized to solidify the printed insulation slurry layer subsequently. Many insulation slurry layers were sintered and stacked to form the support spacer arranged in equilateral triangle form. The carbon nanotube was used as field emitter, and the field emission display panel was fabricated and sealed with glass frit, which possessed good field emission characteristics and better image uniformity.

Abstract: In this study, heat-acupuncture needle was coated with bioceramics by applying a plasma spray coating method to prevent a skin burn in the heat-acupuncture therapy. The effect of coating on the surface roughness of heat-acupuncture needle was investigated and the surface morphology was examined by scanning electron microscope (SEM). The effect of coating on the heat conduction of heat-acupuncture needle was also investigated. The results showed that the surface roughness of uncoated, Al2O3, and ZrO2 coated needle was 0.0675um, 8.568um, and 3.285um, respectively. The surface of ZrO2 coated needle was more uniform than that of Al2O3 coated needle. The results also showed that the heat conduction of heat-acupuncture needle was significantly affected by the bioceramic coating on the needle. Specifically, the maximum temperature of middle part of uncoated, Al2O3, and ZrO2 coated needle was 48°C, 38°C and 42°C, respectively.

Abstract: The paper introduces the planning and construction experiences and development ideas of additional insulation of walls made from straw-bale. The energetic refurbishment of existing building is an important priority in the action plan of the EU dealing with the energy efficiency. The additional insulation of walls reduces significantly the energy demand of building but the effectiveness and the thickness of the insulation-material has economic and environmental limits. According to our previous research we introduced that the additional insulation of walls made from straw has significant advantages.The application of straw-bale insulation has large potential in the case of detached dwelling houses in rural environment. The paper introduces through two ready buildings the most important negative and positive experiences of straw-bale insulation. The paper also makes proposals for the development of the technology.

Abstract: In this paper, by studying the engineering properties of rubber particles-improved fly ash soil, the authors provide technical parameters for setting up cold-resistance layer in the seasonal frozen zone. In the experiment, rubber particles are mixed into the fly ash soil by mass of 0%, 1%, 2%, 3%, 5% and 7% and unconfined compressive strength testing, frost heave test, insulation test and thermal conductivity test. By analyzing the test results, the authors drew the conclusion that fly ash soil improved by rubber particles has a high compressive strength, a small amount of frost heave, good insulation performance, small thermal conductivity coefficient.Therefore, improved fly ash soil with rubber particles is one of the preferred materials to set up the cold resistance layer in seasonal frost zone.

Abstract: That of the problem of fire, falling prevention, water seepage usually consists in the insulation technology sticking polystyrene board plate. It can avoid fire hazard through the selection of excellent insulation materials and proper construction technology and setting fire barrier .It is mainly to control the construction process for falling prevention and focus on structural details for water seepage prevention.

Abstract: This paper describes the problems of geometrical thermal bridges and discusses their relative influence on building heat loss. The paper also deals with the use of composite material based on secondary raw materials for elimination of thermal bridges in wall footing detail and flat roof parapet detail.

Abstract: To fight global warming, we must understand what our energy options are. By far the most important option is efficiency, which is the easiest, quickest, and least expensive way to fight global warming. The most efficient way to decrease the energy consumption of buildings is to increase the insulation of thermal envelopes such as the roof and exterior walls. Globally, many countries have targets to reduce building energy consumption and to provide energy efficient buildings such as passive house and zero energy buildings. This paper presents the applications of high-efficiency insulations for passive house and zero energy buildings. Insulation cost is a small percentage of the total construction cost, but the saved energy cost is large making payback periods short. Considering the possibility of rise of oil price and the exhaustion of fossil fuel, insulation should be added beyond the level that any building insulation code requires.

Abstract: To assess the degradation of stator winding insulation in high voltage motor, a total of forty-eight coils were manufactured. These coils are classified into five groups and there are twelve strands in each coil. Four coil groups are artificial defects such as shorted turn of strand, internal separation between conductor and insulation, large void within insulation and removal of semi-conductive tape. The other coil group is normal. Before ac breakdown test was performed, nondestructive test that included ac current, dissipation factor and partial discharge (PD) was done with five coil groups. This paper carried out by comparing the results between nondestructive test and ac breakdown test. When the values of ac current increase rate, tip-up dissipation factor and PD magnitude are large, the insulation is occurred the deterioration. AC breakdown voltage is also low in degraded insulation.
