Abstract: Poly methyl methacrylate(PMMA) with mar resistant or poly ethtylene(PE) substrates were surface-treated by applying plasma discharge or alkaline solution. Ceramic thin film comprised of silicon oxide, titanium oxide and zirconium oxide was formed on these surface treated substrates respectively from an aqueous solution, and after the formation of ceramic thin film, titanium oxide thin film was also coated on them from aqueous solution at ordinary temperature and pressure. The thin film coated polymer material was tested in mechanical property. The thin film was hard and the adhesion strength to the organic polymer substrate was very high. The substrate was soaked in SBF and apatite was formed on the substrate. This method is promising for developing hard and soft tissue implants with various mechanical properties as well as high bioactivity.

Abstract: By electrophoretic deposition, wollastonite particles were deposited in pores of porous ultrahigh molecular weight polyethylene (UHMWPE). The UHMWPE-wollastonite composite thus fabricated was soaked in a simulated body fluid. As a result, apatite was formed inside the pores as well as on the surface of the UHMWPE-wollastonite composite. The formed apatite showed high adhesive strength to the composite.

Abstract: This study is concerning hybrid materials composed of the magnetite and the organic polymer such as dextran. They are useful for hyperthermia of cancer. In the preparation of this material, chemical structure or molecular weight of the added polymer is expected to affect ionic interaction between polymer and iron salts, and consequently the grain size and morphology of the prepared magnetite core. Therefore, we have synthesized magnetite-polymer hybrids using various polymers. Various polymers were dissolved in iron (II) chloride aqueous solution, and then NaOH aqueous solution was added to this mixed solution. As a result, in the case of neutral and cationic polymer crystalline magnetite was precipitated in the hybrid. On the other hand, in the case of anionic polyacrylic acid, lepidocrocite was precipitated rather than magnetite. It is known that the magnetite formation progresses through intermediate Fe (OH)2 formation and oxidation of the Fe (OH)2 by dissolved O2. Therefore it is considered that tight ionic interaction is constructed between the iron ions and the carboxyl group in the polyacrylic acid to form a complex, and the Fe (OH)2 formation is inhibited. When the hybrid was prepared by addition of NaOH aqueous solution to iron (II) chloride solution, and subsequent addition of the different polymers, magnetite formation was not inhibited irrespective of kind of polymer. The present results indicate that crystalline structure of the magnetite phase in magnetite-polymer hybrid is strongly affected by the chemical structure of polymer additives or the order of addition.

Abstract: Poly(linalool) thin films were fabricated using RF plasma polymerisation. All films were found to be smooth, defect-free surfaces with average roughness of 0.44 nm. The FTIR analysis of the polymer showed a notable reduction in –OH moiety and complete dissociation of C=C unsaturation compared to the monomer, and presence of a ketone band absent from the spectrum of the monomer. Poly(linalool) were characterised by chain branching and a large quantity of short polymer chains. Films were optically transparent, with refractive index and extinction coefficient of 1.55 and 0.001 (at 500 nm) respectively, indicating a potential application as an encapsulating (protective) coating for circuit boards. The optical band gap was calculated to be 2.82 eV, which is in the semiconducting energy gap region.

Abstract: Many micropores were formed on the surface of a Ti-15Mo-5Zr-3Al alloy plate and a polyethylene terephthalate (PET) plate by sandblasting, Apatite Nuclei were precipitated in the pores, then bioactive Apatite Nuclei-precipitated composites were fabricated. In order to examine the bioactivity, the composites were soaked in SBF and it was observed that hydroxyapatite was induced on the whole surface within 1 d. The hydroxyapatite layer possessed high adhesive strength to the plate due to a mechanical interlocking effect between hydroxyapatite in the micropores and the plate.

Abstract: Apatite nuclei were dispersed in inorganic binder and the apatite nuclei-contained inorganic binder was coated on polyethyleneterephthalate plate. Hydroxyapatite was induced by the apatite nuclei dispersed in the binder and hydroxyapatite layer was formed on the surface of the substrate by soaking in SBF. The hydroxyapatite layer showed high adhesive strength to the substrate.

Abstract: The poly (2-methoxy-5-(2-ethylhexyl oxy)-1, 4-phenylenevin- ylene) (MEH-PPV) was used as a secondary electron donor material in the poly (3-octylthiophene) (P3OT): graphene bulk-heterojunction photovoltaic cell. The XRD investigation of the active layer showed a well-organized intraplane structure with lamellae oriented normal to the substrate. The mechanism of charge transfer in the multi-donor PV cell was investigated; it shows that efficient energy transfer takes place from MEH-PPV to P3OT. The reason for the increase in the open-circuit voltage which dues to the band structure of BHJ where the energy level change of the highest occupied molecular orbital of the MEH-PPV: P3OT as multi-donor. The hybrid devices showed the energy conversion efficiency of the multi-donor BHJ solar devices with moderate amount of MEH-PPV. The surface roughness investigation indicated the morphology of the hybrid active layer film.

Abstract: This article presents the results of research output voltage characteristics of solar cells on an organic basis with the use of P3HT: PCBM system. There were produced organic solar cells in a coating in air, current-voltage characteristics were measured. It was determined the characteristic influence of a substrate cleaning and annealing temperature of layers applied on fill factor and conversion efficiency.

Abstract: Based on TEOS system and sol-gel process together with catalysts and organic polymer, the microstructure of SiO2 film is controlled. The films are characterized by ellipsometer and SEM respectively. The experimental results show an antireflective film produced by incorporation of organic polymer in the precursor solution is a more effective method of effect the uniformly porous structures of SiO2 thin film on the glass substrate.
