Abstract: The synchronous generators of shipboards power system are generally multiphase (mostly twelve phases), it means necessary to building the model by code programming because there aren’t this ready-made component in EMTDC or other digital simulation software. In this paper, a programming method for numerical calculation of synchronous generator and interfacing program codes to PSCAD/EMTDC are described. According to generic rotate machine Park equation, trapezoid integral is adopted to make the math differential equations discrete to numerical difference expression. The paper emphatically deduces discrete algorithm for getting numerical transient solutions of synchronous generator model. For the sake of the verification for this modeling method, a three-phase synchronous generator model based on code program modeling is taken as test demonstration.

Abstract: On the basis of analyzing the synthesis application of p-q (instantaneous reactive power) theory and unit vector template, a multi-functional grid-connected inverter (MFGCI) with auxiliary services on power quality enhancement in micro-grid (MG) is presented. The novel control strategy for achieving maximum benefits from these MFGCI when installed in AC MG access to 3-phase 4-wire distribution systems by isolated transformer at the point of common coupling (PCC). This kind of inverter can not only deliver the power generation of renewable energy sources (RESs), but also can perform as active power filter (APF) at their PCC as well as can improve the efficiency of inverter and decrease the hardware investment. Finally, both feasibility and effectiveness of this new topologies and control strategies of MFGCI are verified by PSCAD/EMTDC.

Abstract: As the main types of parallel FACTS devices, the basic function of SVC and STATCOM is to realize the dynamic compensation of reactive power and maintain system voltage stability. However, when new control strategies are added to them .Both of them can suppress SSO effectively. Based on IEEE first benchmark model, this paper established simulation model by PSCAD/EMTDC. The effects of suppressing SSO by SVC/STATCOM are verified with time domain simulation, and the comparative analyses are carried out on the effects of suppressing SSO by SVC and STATCOM.

Abstract: In order to build an aggregated wind farm model to research on the effect large scale wind power has on the transient performance of the power system, firstly, it is necessary to build an effective WTGs model. Based on the electro-magnetic transient simulation platform PSCAD/EMTDC, this paper built models of all the parts of Doubly-fed type VSCF wind generator, including wind model, wind turbine model, rotation system model, detailed converters model, and emphatically expounded the implementation process of the control strategy based on the stator flux vector oriented principle. Then through the change of wind speed and setting three-phase short-circuit fault on the net side, the model is verified on the decoupling control of active and reactive power for maximum point power tracking (MPPT) and the ability of low voltage ride-through.

Abstract: To explore the self-excitation risks in weak interconnection power grid from the wind power flow, a vector control model of variable speed wind turbine based on doubly fed induction generator (DFIG) is established using electromagnetic transient simulation software PSCAD/ EMTDC. Start from the basic circuit model, the self-excitation phenomenon is analyzed with wind power integration. Simulation results show that the effect of wind power integration on the self-excitation risk is mainly determined by DFIG’s operation method, and wind power integration will affect self-excitation engineering judgment method at the same time. When DFIG works in phase late operation or has no reactive power exchange with the main power grid, cutting the wind turbine after broken thread quickly can restrain the worsening trend to a certain extent. However cutting the wind turbine after broken thread when DFIG works in phase advance operation may cause a voltage jump of the hydraulic synchronous generator in parallel with the wind turbine.

Abstract: Based on PSCAD/EMTDC simulation platform, this paper analyses the harmonics caused by the process of rectifier and inverter and DC bias of transformer in Yindong ±660kV HVDC transmission system. The results indicate that, characteristic harmonics of 660kV HVDC system AC bus give priority to 12k±1 time harmonics and bring serious influence to the AC system of the rectifier and converter station; the characteristic harmonics of DC lines are mainly about 12k time and the voltage ripple factor is in the specified scope; both the odd and even harmonic components are increasing significantly under DC bias than that without DC bias,which thereby makes the power transformers become the severe harmonic sources.

Abstract: As the development of high voltage direct current (HVDC) transmission, the problems of harmonic instability become more prevalent. Besides, harmonic instability in exceedingly weak HVDC systems is particularly serious. The modulation of the DC converter based on switching function is deduced. By considering the whole process of harmonic transferring at the AC and DC side through converters from the perspective of circuit, the generation conditions of harmonic instability are analyzed. Then an exceedingly weak HVDC system model is established and simulated in PSCAD/EMTDC software to verify the theoretical analysis. The study results provide theoretical basis and computational methods to solve the problems of harmonic instability in HVDC systems.

Abstract: Metal halide lamp (MH) is widely used in stadium lighting because of its significant advantages. But this high-intensity gas discharge lamp circuit contains the arcand such negative resistance characteristics lead to harmonic current. In addition, electronic ballasts of MH with rectifier circuit and inverter also produced a large number of electrical harmonics, becoming the main harmonic sources. In this paper, piecewise linearization method is used to establish the electrical model of 2500W metal halide lamp and a three-level model of electronic ballasts with the PSCAD/EMTDC. This paper analyzed the grid side harmonic current when the model is running. Comparing the simulation results to the measured data of Shenzhen Universiade venues lighting circuit, we can verify the accuracy of the model.

Abstract: This paper builds the mathematical model of a doubly-fed wind power generator (DFIG) which is widely used in wind power generation. Based on stator magnetic field orientation vector technique, active and reactive power decoupling control strategy is constructed. Based on the software package PSCAD/EMTDC, the grid-connected system of DFIG is modeled, and the dynamic response characteristics of generators active and reactive power on ramp change of wind speed conditions is simulated and analyzed. The simulation results show that the variable pitch DFIG has good operating characteristics and the model is correct.
