Abstract: Efficient remanufacturing of end-of-life (EOL) products is crucial for environment friendly production. Disassembly is part of the remanufacturing and it is meant to obtain components and materials from end-of-life products. An essential performance objective of a disassembly process is the benefits it brings, that is the revenue brought by the retrieved parts and material, diminished by the cost of their retrieval operations. A decision must be taken to balance the disassembly production system. In this paper, a multi-agent system (MAS) is presented to optimize the remanufacturing process of EOL products. The MAS offers a synthesized information platform for various tasks, e.g. product/manufacturing information processing, disassembly sequencing, solution performance assessing, and processes scheduling. On one hand, the MAS could retrieve much information related design/manufacturing resources, by multi-level data obtaining mechanism. On the other hand, this information will make the prospective integrated environment for profitable remanufacturing system planning more feasible.

Abstract: The quality of remanufacturing products, which is always restricting the development of remanufacturing industry, is one of sixty-four-dollar questions. By detecting the cores, process control in remanufacturing production and certificating remanufacturing products, quality control of remanufacturing products is studied. Because of cores different in original states, remanufacturing is in low-volume on the whole. Based on Bayesian posterior analysis, the paper improves the control chart and uses the previous data to monitor the production process. Finally, some advances are given to remanufacturing product certification.

Abstract: This paper outlines work carried out in the field of inventory management on remanufacturing. So far numerous authors have proposed quantitative models taking inventory management in remanufacturing into consideration. However, no general framework has been specified yet. Thus, it appears timely for a composed outline of the issues showing up in the context of remanufacturing inventory control. In this review, the area is subdivided into three main fields, in particular inventory policies, deterministic & stochastic models and lead time effects. For each of the aforementioned fields, the models proposed in the literature are reviewed and the areas in necessity of further research are indicated.

Abstract: A growing concern about the environment problems, especially about the waste, carbon emissions and landfill, has spurred research into the field of remanufacturing. This paper mainly focuses on the residual life prediction in the remanufacturing of machine tools, which is an important step of remanufacturing process. A system analysis and synthesis is performed in the fields of testing data collection and data analysis and calculation, which are the two important components of residual life prediction. Some non-destructive testing technologies for data collection and some algorithms for data analysis are summarized and made comparison. In addition, this paper also aims at giving a perspective in such area in the future.

Abstract: Remanufacturing of disposable parts has the advantage in cost and environment aspects. Remanufacturing technology requires the three technologies of part cleansing technology, disassembly technology, and part restoration technology. Also, recycling and disposal must be determined through failure mode analysis. In this paper, the failure causes of magnet valve and spill valve of injector were analyzed, and the proper restoration method on main causes were researched. As a result, magnet valve was appropriate through polishing, tap manufacturing and DLC coating of spill valve was evaluated to be most appropriate.

Abstract: While the concept of remanufacturing is gaining in popularity, in practice the remanufacturing industry in Malaysia is still in its nascent stage, with approximately 32 fields in various industries claiming to be involved in the process. This is an indication for Malaysia to further develop the industry as competing developed countries already view remanufacturing as a huge business opportunity. The aim of this study is to identify and minimize the frequent failures occurring during the dismantling process. Ishikawa diagram is used to identify all possible causes of failures while the Failure Mode and Effect Analysis (FMEA) with two Risk Priority Number (RPNs), identifies the most significant failures. The case study is performed in an automotive industry as well as in a contract remanufacturing environment in Malaysia, specifically pertaining to the dismantling of cylinder heads. The work outcome of this project is expected to be the enhancement of the robustness of DfRem investigations among researchers in real life applications and to provide better solution to a wider variety of industry sectors in a developing country like Malaysia.

Abstract: A new automatic high velocity arc spraying system was developed. The system was consisted of five units, i.e. central control unit, operating machine, positioner, touching screen and high velocity arc spraying equipment. The central control unit is controlled by a program, controlling other four units. Spraying parameters could be input and modified on the touching screen during spraying. The moving of spraying gun was carried out by motion arm of the operating machine. The rotational velocity and angle of components to be sprayed was controlled by positioner. The spraying process for a cylinder body of automobile engine with the system was introduced in detail. The auto and manual arc spraying have been used to fabricate coating. The microstructure of the coatings prepared by the two spraying processing was analyzed. The result shows that the auto sprayed coating has a more uniform and compact structure than that of the manual sprayed coating.

Abstract: The remanufacturability of product is mainly determined by product design and development strategy. But now most products are designed without considering the remanufacturing and recycling process. It is necessary to study manufacturers product design behavior to find measures to encourage environmentally favorable product design. Sustainable product development behavior of manufacturer population in remanufacturing was studied. An evolutionary game model with government subsidies was set up. And the evolutionary stable strategies were analyzed under different ranges of values of relative parameters. The results indicated that government subsidies were essential to make manufacturers develop sustainable product and large subsidies always worked well. Especially the results showed that small subsidies also worked under certain conditions, which including the initial state of manufacturer population and the relationship of government subsidies and manufacturers revenues under different product development strategies.

Abstract: An uncertain programming model for the manufacturing/remanufacturing hybrid system in reverse logistics environment under grey and fuzzy uncertainty was proposed. It considers the material suppliers, manufacturing plant, distribution centers, retailers, collection centers, disassembly center and remanufacturing center. The designed neural network can expedite the simulation process after trained from the input-output data generated with the proposed grey fuzzy simulation method. The improved Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) algorithm based on the Differential Evolution (DE) algorithm is used to optimize the uncertain model. The numerical example illustrates that the cost will increase with the higher probability and credibility, and decrease with the higher return rate.

Abstract: The high-efficiency cleaning is one of the key technologies in the remanufacturing process. It is the premise and guarantee for remanufactured core inspection and machining. It also is an important link to improve quality and reliability of remanufactured products. On the basis of analyzing the structural feature, working conditions and main dirt of worn-out or discarded component of axles and transmission of construction machinery, the remanufacturing cleaning technology is discussed.
