Abstract: In the current work two different routes, an alkoxide based sol-gel and an aqueous solution-gel route, were used to synthesize PZT (30/70) powders. The phase purity, morphology and particle size of both were studied by XRD, TEM and particle size analysis. The dispersion behavior of the powders in water was investigated by means of light scattering particle size analyzer and zeta potential measurements. The extent to which powder morphology, synthesis route and particle charge state relate to the resulting dispersion behaviour was established. Alkoxide sol-gel derived powders are better dispersed in aqueous media than aqueous solution-gel derived powders.

Abstract: The porous TiO2 pellets were prepared based on pigment grade titaina, P25 titania powder and titanium(IV) butoxide. The characterization was done with X-Ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy and BET measurements. The result shows that TiO2 pellets by using titanium(IV) butoxide with some addictive have the best surface porosity, with specific surface area of 196.9m2/g. For pigment grade titania and P25 titania powder, it is still effective to enhance the surface area after reassembling. The surface area increased from 11.6 to 29.2 m2/g for pigment grade titania and from 50 to 84.4 m2/g for P25 titania powder. Furthermore, it has been investigated on how to optimize and get the highest surface area by controlling the sintering temperature, reaction temperature, pH of solution, and the amount of alcohol and addictive of surfactant during preparation. The experimental photocatalytic degradation of acetone and toluene was performed using titania pellets made from P25 titania powder.

Abstract: Amorphous SiO2 thin films were fabricated at different temperatures using sol-gel technique. The unipolar resistive switching behavior was observed in Cu/ SiO2/ ATO (SnO2: Sb) sandwiched structure when the SiO2 thin film annealed at 500°C. The average ratio of Roff /Ron is 102. We investigated the successful device using HRTEM and XPS. It shows that the Cu defuses into the SiO2 thin film and it forms CuSiO3 in the interface between SiO2 and ATO films according to the high resolution images.

Abstract: Spherical carbon nanoparticles were synthesized by sol-gel polymerization of resorcinol and formaldehyde in the presence of CTAB(cetyltrimethyl ammonium bromide) and subsequent carbonization at 900 in N2 atmosphere. It is found that the amount of CTAB, water and catalyst showed a significant impact on the morphology and size of carbon nanoparticles. The magnesia-carbon (MgO-C) bricks containing 1~4 wt% nanocarbon were prepared by adding various types of carbon black (CB), multi walled carbon nanotubes (CNT) and synthesized nanocarbon. The mechanical properties, oxidation resistance and corrosion resistance of the MgO-C brick in which the nanocarbon is added was investigated. The MgO-C refractories were characterized by Field Emission Scanning Electron Microscope (FE-SEM, MIRA II LMH), Cold Crush Strength (CCS).

Abstract: This study examined the effect of crystalline orientation and dopants such as Nb and Zn on the piezoelectric coefficient of sol-gel driven Pb1(Zr0.52Ti0.48)O3(PZT) and doped PZT thin films. Crack-free 1-μm-thick PZT and doped PZT thin films prepared by using 2-Methoxyethanol-based sol-gel method were fabricated on Pt/Ti/SiO2/Si substrates. The highly (111) oriented PZT thin films of pure perovskite structure could be obtained by controlling various parameters such as a PbTiO3 seed layer and a concentration of sol-gel solution. The Nb-Zn doped PZT thin films exhibited high piezoelectric coefficient which was about 50 % higher than that of undoped PZT thin film. The highest measured piezoelectric coefficient was 240 pC/N, which could be applicable to piezoelectrically operated MEMS actuator, sensor, or energy harvester devices.

Abstract: In this work, high purity BaTiO3 (BT) nano-powders by a sol-gel process was prepared with Ba(NO3)2 and Ti(C4H9O)4 materials in order to acquire uniform size grains. The effects of the crystallinity, microstructure of BT nano-powders calcined at different temperatures and dielectric properties of the ceramics were investigated by XRD, SEM and impedance analyzer, respectively. Scanning electron microscopy and X-ray diffraction investigation revealed cubic plates and crystallite size. The results revealed that crystallite size and calcination temperature of BT and influence on the dielectric constant.
