Abstract: A challenge method composed of digital image correlation (DIC) method, circle coordinate grid technology and finite element (FE) software to conduct strain measurement of bimetal is presented. This approach can carry out the prediction and measurement of strain. The coordinate grids are painted on top and bottom surface of bimetal when experiment and simulate specimen. Each node is named a fixed number in turn, and these numbers can precisely help to identify the same name point between FE software and the experiments specimen. The bimetal sheet has been tested using DIC software, circle center of the coordinates points can be accurately identify on the surface of bimetal. The changing of distance between adjacent points is computed to construct the forming limit diagram before and after forming. It is an effective means to evaluate the forming performance of bimetal and verify the reasonable of FE analysis results. 2A12 metal is conducted experiment using the challenge method in this paper, bimetal has not conduct experiment due to some reasons.

Abstract: Based on the relation between the wavelength shift of sensing FBG and the strain, a flow measuring device of the circular target binding Fiber Bragg Grating with the cantilever is designed and the mathematical model based on a circular target flow measurement system is established. Through the flow experiment, we can get the flow test result. The experimental data error analysis can be concluded to verify the feasibility and precision of the design.

Abstract: The arrangement positions and the quantities are different for different types of cranes. In order to make suitable decision, much investigate and survey was done at preliminary stage, and we know that the flange connected gate legs and turntables, the connections between load-bearing beam and rotary column under the engine room and the connections between jib and turntable are easy to lose efficient, and their mainly failure modes are cracks. By the method of finite element, 32 sensors (including 21 welding strain FBG sensors and 11 temperature FBG sensors) were used after doing much investigate and survey and finite element modeling analysis, which are arranged in different places of a gantry crane of MQ2533, for real-time structure health monitoring. This method makes the sensor data obtained more realistically reflects the crane structural condition, which provides reliable data support for crane safety monitoring and safety evaluation. Then a software platform is developed to monitor the real-time stress. If the real-time stress exceeds the allowable stress, it issues an alarm signal to the operator.

Abstract: A high sensitivity pressure sensing system with a fiber Bragg grating (FBG) using the transverse strain characteristic of a straight bourdon tube (SBT) is presented and demonstrated for the first time to our knowledge. The transverse strain of the SBT makes the FBG tensioned. The pressure can be determined by measuring the shift of the Bragg wavelength. The experimentally obtained results indicate that the shift of the Bragg wavelength changes linearly with the applied pressure and the sensitive coefficients of pressure are approximately 6.22x10-3MPa-1. This represents a sensitivity value approximately 9.66x10-3pm/Pa. The pressure sensing system shows little hysteresis error.

Abstract: A method for detecting pipeline’s deformation is presented in this paper, based on distributed fiber optic strain sensor. We simplify the pipeline and analysis it as a beam. According to beam’s geometrical relational expression, pipeline’s deflection could be calculated by using discrete strain with numerical method.

Abstract: A micromechanics-based elastic model is developed for two-phase functionally graded composites with locally pair-wise particle interactions. In the gradation direction, there exist two microstructurally distinct zones: particle-matrix zone and transition zone. In the particle-matrix zone, the homogenized elastic fields are obtained by integrating the pair-wise interactions from all other particles over the representative volume element. In the transition zone, a transition function is constructed to make the homogenized elastic fields continuous and differentiable in the gradation direction. The averaged elastic fields are solved for transverse shear loading and uniaxial loading in the gradation direction.

Abstract: Ultrasound elastography is a technique of imaging information about tissue elastic moduli, which plays an important role in early diagnosis of several kinds of tumor. Usually, elastograms display only axial displacement and corresponding tissue strain. In lateral direction, however, there is no phase information and the precision of data is lacking too. In this paper, a spline based method for lateral displacement and the corresponding strain estimation is proposed. SSE, which is computed based on lateral data lines in pre-and post-ultrasound signal, was used as a pattern-matching function to estimate lateral displacement. With this method, we can obtain directly continuous estimates with lower computational cost. The SNRe and CNRe of elastograms have been evaluated using simulated data.
