Abstract: Fatigue strength of bolts has been generally investigated loading only axial cyclic loads on the bolts. However since the bolt is used to be tightened into a internal thread part or a nut, the bolt receives twisting torque due to friction torque between thread torque during tightening. Therefore an influence of the thread torque on the fatigue strength shoud be investigated. In this study, transverse fatigue tests have been conducted because the test can perform the fatigue tests in situations a bolt is tightened. And the transverse fatigue tests loosening the nut slightly to release the thread torque after tightening have been also conducted. Test bolts and nuts were hexagon head bolts M8 and the bolts and the nuts were made of aluminum alloy A5056. The bolt/nut assemblies were lubricated by Molybdenum disulfide grease in the transverse fatigue tests. Results showed that the transverse fatigue strength of bolt/nut assemblies for aluminum alloy bolt decreased by influence of the thread torque. Results also showd that the transverse fatigue strength of bolt/nut assemblies for aluminum alloy bolt could improve 15 % by means of releasing the thread torque.

Abstract: The effect of design features of an internal spinal fixator under loading is critical to understanding of interaction between fixator and instrumented spine. In this study, we performed finite element analysis for spinal pedicle screw installed in the lumbar spine. The purpose of this study is to model and simulate the newly designed spinal pedicle screw. The deformation and stress of the screw are analyzed for the tightening process and loading process simulating the condition when it is installed in the human body as described in the ASTM F1717 procedure. We expected this study is to derive reliable results for developing a new model by analysis of design variables and fatigue behavior.

Abstract: Сylinder head bolts’ tightening torque had a direct impact on engine body vibration. With necessary vibration test hardware, we applied the software of NI LabVIEW to develop engine vibration data acquisition and analysis, data fitting procedures, and took 6135K-13 diesel engine as a research object, on the basis of the given vibration test program, we analyzed and processed the sampled vibration data, studied and validated the quantitative relationship between cylinder head bolts’ tightening torque and engine body vibration.

Abstract: The fatigue life of hexagon head and socket head bolts, attached to vehicle a wheel, is assessed and the estimation of the residual life of existing bolts in vehicle wheel is investigated. Fieldmeasured load histories were applied in this test. Tensile tests and fatigue tests were performed to evaluate the effect of tightening torque and to obtain the basic experimental data. Miner’s rule was used to predict the fatigue life of bolts. The results indicate the prediction of fatigue life of the bolts was in good agreement with the real life of vehicle wheel bolts in this test.

Abstract: Collecting in the digital torque wrench range of tightening torque and inspection torque, this article has given some linear analysis and described the relationship between the different connection states. Through the six different commonly used congruent relationship between tightening torque and inspection torque in the connection status, the research concluded that car factory should distinguished the relationship between tightening torque and inspection torque in different connection status.
