Abstract: . The paper deals with the numerical analysis of foam materials. Open cell foam is investigated. Numerical simulations enable prediction of failure process and assessment of effective properties of the modeled foam structures [1]. Metal as well as polyurethane foams exhibit interesting properties. They are light, possess good acoustic and/or magnetic isolation, have ability to absorb energy of vibration and impacts [2]. They are used for sandwich panels, hit absorbers (i.e. as elements of buffer constructions in rail vehicles), fillers of construction parts, bodies of vehicles (i.e. floating combat vehicles), dividing walls on vessels and others. Specially prepared open cell foams demonstrate auxetic properties [3] and shape memory effect [4]. Such materials are very good for seats in aircrafts, which may protect pilots and passengers during crashes and restrict heavy backbone injuries. Foams are also applied for filtering purposes. Foams themselves or in combination with different types of fillers (i.e. elastomers) or ceramic reinforcement may be used for impact energy absorbing panels for military purposes (protection against explosion shock wave and splinters).

Abstract: The study presents results of pitting corrosion tests and analysis of chemical composition of X2CrNiMo 17-12-2 steel surface layer with diversified strain hardening and the method of surface preparation after 30-day exposure to artificial urine. Samples with electrochemically polished as well as with electrochemically polished and chemically passivated surface were selected for the tests. Electrochemical passivation was applied in order to obtain extremely smooth surface (Ra0.16 m). Pitting corrosion tests were performed by means of potentiodynamic method, where analysis of chemical composition of the layer formed on the steel surface was conducted using X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). The tests were carried out in order to determine suitability of X2CrNiMo 17-12-2 steel with modified surface and diversified strain hardening for production of wire used in urology.

Abstract: The course of microcontrollers oriented to practical skills that is lectured at the Electronics Faculty of Vilnius Gediminas Technical University is presented and discussed in this paper. This course is dedicated to the students of the Basic studies. The laboratory works and the course project, which are of high importance in obtaining the capability to develop microcontroller-based control systems, play a key role in this course. The Mid-range architecture family of PIC (Peripheral Interface Controller) microcontrollers developed and produced by the Microchip company was chosen as the basis for the studies. The structure of lectures, the description of specifics of laboratory works, the course project and the examination procedure are presented here as well. The answers of students indicate that the course has good appreciation. This course is evaluated positively by the institutions involved in the development of the microcontroller-based devices.

Abstract: Qualitative high education of a country is one of the most important factors that ensure a sustainable development of a respective country. Therefore effective development of higher education in the country becomes a significant factor in achieving this goal. Faster development of industry is mostly affected by the training of qualified industry engineers at higher education schools based not only on the conveyance of engineering, but also of managerial knowledge and the development of their abilities. The objective of this article is to put forward measures for improving continuing master studies in industrial engineering and management.

Abstract: Mechatronics engineering study programs were established at German universities approximately 15 years ago. Today at about 50 universities of applied sciences mechatronics education is offered in undergraduate and graduate courses as full programs, majors or minors. In 2005 the MECHATRONIK e.V. – the mechatronics association in Germany - published a recommendation for undergraduate and graduate education in mechatronics, which defines minimum requirements to mechatronics study programs. In this paper the mechatronics study programs of a number of German universities are analyzed and compared.

Abstract: This article analyzes intelligent agent in the changing drawing. The objective is to find the shortest way between two points in the flat space with prominent polygon fences. This is an idealized task that a robot (agent) has to solve seeking to find its way in the environment (drawing). The creation tasks of intelligent agent are solved with agent unified modeling language. Graphical system can analyze drawing, forming graph, calculate graph matrices, extract route and prepare programs form with information. It discerns objects-classes: agent, graph, route, which have some properties and methods. System test is executed with three drawings. Design system and example of intelligent agent in the drawing is presented. Intelligent agent systems are discussed and conclusions are made.
