Abstract: Graphene and its derivatives have become great concern in biomedical fields. Though many investigations about their toxicity have been reported, investigation on the interaction with γ-globulins is lacking. In this work, we studied the effects of the graphene oxide (GO) on the structure of γ-globulins by UV absorption spectra, circular dichroism (CD) and fuorescence spectra. The results showed that GO could alter the secondary structures and conformation. The results obtained in this study provided good insight into understanding the biomedical application of GO in vivo.

Abstract: To improve carboxymethylation reaction, chitosan as reactant was activated to change its morphology and compact structure. The crystallization properties of chitosan before and after activation were characterized by X-ray diffraction analysis. Different preparation methods were compared using activated, powdery or flake chitosan as reactants, respectively. And the influences of reaction time and temperature on the yield, the intrinsic viscosity and the degree of substitution of carboxymethyl chitosan were also investigated. We found that, the activation treatment changed the crystallization properties of chitosan, which greatly accelerated the subsequent carboxymethylation reaction; and higher yield of carboxymethyl chitosan with considerable intrinsic viscosity was obtained under the reaction conditions of a shorter time and a milder temperature.

Abstract: The biomineral-binding alendronate-chitosan conjugate (Scheme 1) was developed as a novel drug delivery system. Alendronate was conjugated to the hydroxyl groups of chitosan, thereby maintaining the amino groups of chitosan intact. By means of FT-IR and 1H NMR, the characterization was conducted to confirm the successful synthesis of alendronate-chitosan conjugate.
