Abstract: In this paper we study the interaction of two unequal collinear cracks in a pre-stressed fiber reinforced wood composite material in anti-plane mode of fracture. A mathematical model is associated to the mechanical problem. Starting from the boundary, constitutive and far field conditions we obtain the representation of the incremental displacement, stress and strain fields using two complex potentials. Using Sih s generalized fracture criterion we determine the critical incremental shear stress which produce crack propagation and the crack tips propagation direction in a particular case of a Pine wood composite.

Abstract: The mechanical behavior of multi-cracks under compression has become a very important project in the field of fracture mechanics and rock mechanics. In this paper, based on the previous theoretical results of the failure criterion for brittle materials under compression, experiment study is implemented. The specimens are square plates and are made of cement, sand and water, and the cracks are made by using a very thin film (0.1 mm). The relations of material compressive strength versus crack spacing and the lateral confining stress are obtained from experimental results. The experimental results agree well with the failure criterion for brittle materials under compression, which indicates that the criterion is effective and applicable.

Abstract: In this paper, conservatisms of current plugging criteria on steam generator tubes are reviewed and six new failure prediction models for dual through-wall cracks are proposed. In order to determine the optimum ones among these local or global failure prediction models, a series of plastic collapse tests and corresponding finite element analyses are carried out with respect to two adjacent axial through-wall cracks in thin plates. Then, reaction force model, plastic zone contact model and COD (Crack Opening Displacement) base model were selected as the optimum ones for integrity assessment of steam generator tubes with dual cracks.
