Abstract: In order to study the qualitative and quantitative relationship of the configuration characteristics of motion / force transformation (transmission), the dimension and the performance of motion and force, this paper extends the configuration synthesis of mechanical system to the state space method for the integration synthesis of mechanism configuration, scale and performance. By defining the basic function / performance transformation mechanism, extracting the dual state vector of the input and output performance of mechanism unit, discussing the state space property of mechanism combination (system) including mechanism configuration subspace, mechanism dimension subspace, and performance transformation subspace of mechanism motion / force, and investigating the spatial measurement of mechanism motion / force transformation, the measurement model of mechanical system is established. The motion design of mechanical system is transformed into the problem of finding a connected path (or path planning problem) between two given vectors: input and output dual vector. Finally, an actual example is given to show the details.

Abstract: In this article we present a methodology of minimizing the number of movements performed by an existent pallet changer mechanism attached to an horizontal machining centre. After analysing the existent pallet changer mechanism along with the machining centre we obtained new optimized constructive alternatives regarding the number of movements performed by the pallet changer. After applying the tree-graph method we had optimized structurally the considered pallet changer mechanism and obtained the constructive configuration which performs the least movements in order to change the pallet. The small number of movements of the resulted pallet changer mechanism helps the design engineer to choose the most simple structure which reflects positively in the production cost. The minimum movements number obtained by making use of this method will lead to a simplification of the driving, command and control system of the pallet changer mechanism.

Abstract: The purpose of this paper was to generate several possible configurations of micro/nano-positioning stage with bridge-type mechanism based on graph theory. The structural characteristics of stage were discussed first. Then, these modules made up of micro/nano-positioning stage were abstracted. Thus the stage could be described with a tree-graph. According to the spanning tree theory, several possible configurations of stage are enumerated correspondingly. Subsequently, the configuration synthesis of six bridge-type mechanisms was investigated and 720 results were obtained. Rules for generating structures with symmetry are established. On the basis of this, several innovative structures are presented. Furthermore, the result of this paper provides a practicable approach for the structural design of stage and the design method based on graph theory is effective.
