Abstract: Paeonol is one of main medicinal ingredients of Cortex Moutan. Paeonol has the functions of sedative, hypnosis, anti-bacterial, antibiosis, anti-inflammation, antioxidation, reducing blood pressure and so on. Paeonol has extensive biological activities and has broad prospects of exploitation and utilization. This paper reviews the latest progress of its pharmacology.

Abstract: The alternating current scanning electrochemical microscopy (AC-SECM) is an important method to characterize the electrochemical activity of living cells. In this paper, we apply AC-SECM to measure the electrochemical activity of diatom biofilm. We find that the diatom biofilm presents insulating effect to decrease the current, when the electrode is close to the biofilm. The alternating current impedance of diatom biofilm is overall smaller than that of the bare glass. To investigate the possible effect of chemical stimulus on cellular activity, the diatoms were immersed into paeonol solution (100 μg/mL), and AC-SECM imaging experiments were conducted when immersion time reached 20 h, 25 h and 35 h. The AC measurements performed at high frequencies show that phase angle decreases over time, which preliminarily indicates that the cellular activity of diatoms is affected by paeonol.

Abstract: In this paper, paeonol was studied systemtically. At first, the affinity interaction of paeonol with bovine serum albumin (BSA) was investigated through capillary electrophoresis approach. The association constant of paeonol and BSA was obtained by the vacancy affinity capillary electrophoresis method (VACE). The second, the contents of paeonol were determinede in liuweidihuang pill. In this paper, the new studied method and basic data were offered for further investigating the pharmacology and drug efficacy of paeonol. Meanwhile, the method described would be particularly useful in the quality control of traditional Chinese medicines-liuweidihuang pill.

Abstract: In this study, our purpose was to establish a UPLC method for the simultaneous determination of Paeoniflorin and Paeonol in Houyinan Tablet. The separation was performed on Acquity BEH C18 column(2.1mm×100mm,1.7μm), the mobile phase was acetonitrile-water with gradient elution at a flow rate of 0.2 mL•min-1, the detection wavelength was 230nm, the column temperature was 30°Cand the injection volume was 2μL. Paeoniflorin and Paeonol reached effective separation with the other components in this chromatographic conditions. Paeoniflorin and Paeonol were linear within the range of 0.0406~0.4064μg(r=0.9999) and 0.0426~0.4256μg (r=0.9999), respectively. The average recovery was 99.82% and 100.6%. The results of method validation indicated that the method was simple,quick,accurate, specific and less solvent consumption. It can be used for the quality control of Houyinan Tablet.

Abstract: Objective In order to increase the Paeonol dissolution and content, cortex moutan were smashed into nanoparticles, and the dissolution and content were compared by microscopy before and after super-micro-particle pulverization. Methods Super-micro-particle pulverization and general grinding were used to broke Cortex moutan into particles. The microscopic morphous characteristics of the before- and after- ultra-disintegration particles were compared by microscopy. Methods of HPLC was used to determine the content and dissolution of Paeonol with different grinding conditions. Methods of precipitation and funnel way were used to examine the stability and fluidity of cortex moutan nano-particles. Results Cortex moutan powder after super-micro-particle pulverization appears sphere or like-sphere, and its average size is 200nm~300nm. After the superfine grinding Paeonol dissolution increases 76.19% in comparison with without nano pulverization. The nanoparticle rest angle is θ=33°.The precipitation ratio of Cortex moutan powder with general grinding is 0.28 at 24h, and the precipitation ratio of its nano-power has been to 0.98 at 60min. Conclusion Paeonol dissolution, stability and fluidity of Cortex moutan nanoparticles were improved greatly and this nanoparticles is beneficial to industrial production for traditional Chinese medicine.
