Abstract: The gypsum mortars with different types of aggregate were studied. The surface roughness of fine aggregates and the fracture surface roughness were evaluated by a confocal laser scanning microscopy. Four gypsum mortars and one gypsum paste were tested. The results from the confocal laser scanning microscopy (CLSM) are compared with the pictures of grain surface taken by a scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and both methods seem to be appropriate for surface evaluation. The influence of the surface aggregate roughness on some gypsum mortar properties is demonstrated.

Abstract: Aiming at the independent geometric reference models of IGES surfaces for housing-type components, basing on the Pro/E, authors proposed the method of using the "exterior copy geometry" technology to extract references for surface reconstruction. The top down design ideas are adopted to break down original complex model into several components. After defining the modeling datum and father-son relationship, copy geometry is applied to reconstruct each component. Then all the part models are assembled by "exterior copy geometry" technology in the way of coordinate system superposition. And finally a 3D modeling of complex surface part is reconstructed. The No.10 coupler in CHR3 train is taken as a case study. Extracting geometry reference data from IGES model, without any parametric features, then these data are used to do parametric modeling in Pro/E in order to make them support variability design. Cooperating Pro/E with Imageware, quality of surface reconstructed is analyzed and evaluated. The above method provides an efficient solution for complex parts parameterization modeling and evaluation.

Abstract: Viscoelastic polymers are used as one of coating materials for protecting the products from scratches. Presently, the repair of the coating surface for removing dust or extraneous matters has been performed through several polishing processes. However, it becomes increasingly difficult to polish its surface by only applying good skill and experience of skilled worker because a leading-edge viscoelastic polymer for coating is further scratch-resistant. Thus, based on quantitative evaluation of relation between polishing process and finished surface, it is necessary to make the polishing process appropriate for the leading-edge viscoelastic polymers. In this study, we attempt to establish the evaluation method of the polished surface and clarify the surface condition with invisible scratches.

Abstract: The surface topography characterization of MEMS device is very important to bonding technology of MEMS device. Motif characterizing method is a characterizing method of surface topography by graph. Aiming at the diversity and regionality of surface topography of MEMS device, in this study we have sampled the surface of MEMS device by 3-dimentinal grids using the surface profiler developed by us and characterizes the surface topography of MEMS device by the extended Motif characterizing method. The surface of MEMS device is divided into several Motif regions; the surface topography of every divided region can be evaluated respectively; the details of every region can be zoomed and these regions as a whole or every region can be revolved and projected; one of these regions can be as the reference of other regions. So the height, gradient and other characteristics of others regions of the whole MEMS device surface can be analyzed relative to the reference region; the whole and local surface topography of whole MEMS device can be analyzed.
