The Development of Strength and Microstructure of the Resin Mortar

Abstract:

Intensive development of building chemistry enabled the effective development of building materials based on resins. Polymer concrete is an example of such material. Its advantages are high mechanical strength, particularly flexural and tensile ones, and good resistance to vibrations in comparison with ordinary concrete. Furthermore, the high water resistance and resistance to aggressive media cause that resin-based mortars or concretes, despite their high price, are building materials widely used. The article presents a study on the strength development of selected resin mortars, prepared from a two-component epoxy resin and different proportions of quartz sand. The development of mortar compressive and flexural strength at 1, 3, 7 and 28 days of hardening was analyzed. The mortar microstructure of tested material was also investigated by the means of the Zeiss Nova scanning microscope.
