The renovation, renewal, and maintenance of existing civil infrastructures is, therefore, a primary challenge for researchers and practitioners alike.
Reinforcement corrosion, as the leading deterioration mechanism of civil infrastructure built from reinforced concrete, destroys more than 3% of the world’s GDP [1].
While engineering tools and methods are well developed for the structural design of new structures, tools for assessing current and predicting the future condition of reinforced concrete structures are less advanced.

Civil aircraft engines are typical complex equipment and their health conditions are crucial to the aviation safety.
Because of the development and application of health monitoring techniques, airlines can get abundant parameters that represent the health condition of civil aircraft engines, such as exhausted gas temperature (EGT) and fuel flow.
Thus, NN and PNN can be used to model the health degradation of the civil aircraft engines.
And in this section, the DPNN proposed is adopted to predict the future health condition of the civil aircraft engines through the prediction of the EGT time series.
