Modern engineers should work in the engineering background, this engineering background in addition to original engineering, but also involves environment, economic, legal, marketing, safety, moral, cultural and other vast areas of knowledge.
In professional class level, through the practice teaching platform, train the students with engineering ability, improve engineering quality, and realize the basic engineer training for advanced engineer.
In order to build an engineering teachers team with strong engineering practice ability, on one hand, we can directly employed senior engineers as a Distinguished Professor from the enterprise, through the" engineering tutorial system", ask them to participate in the engineering personnel training, and give us some advices and suggestions in the training scheme, curriculum setting, teaching practice, and take the knowledge from the frontline into the classroom through the form of forum.

Editor's Preface This volume contains 44 six-page full length papers presented at the 6 th International Forum on Advanced Material Science and Technology (IFAMST 2008) held in The Hong Kong Polytechnic University, Hong Kong, China from 12 to 14 June 2008.
Started in 1998, the International Forum on Advanced Material Science and Technology (IFAMST) takes place every two years around the world.
This is the first time that the international forum is hosted in Hong Kong.
Its scope is to bring scientists and engineers of different countries working in various fields together for discussing about the latest development and world-wide cooperation concerned with advanced material science and technology.
I am happy and proud to have welcomed in Hong Kong well-known experts who came to discuss problems related to the analysis of advanced material science and technology.

Mechanisms for the transfer of innovative surface engineering solutions to industrial practice on the example of hybrid layers Adam Mazurkiewicz,a Jerzy Smolik,b * Beata Poteralska c The Institute for Sustainable Technologies – National Research Institute, Pułaskiego 6/10, 26-600 Radom, Poland a adam.mazurkiwicz@itee.radom.pl, b jerzy.smolik@itee.radom.pl, c beata.poteralska@itee.radom.pl Keywords: surface engineering, knowledge transfer, technology centre Abstract Advanced surface engineering technologies are the basis of the intense technological development in the world over the past several decades.
The production of layers and coatings with complex microstructure and application requirements (related to coated materials, the geometry of the engineered elements, economic viability) create a need for advanced technological and organizational solutions.
Surface engineering will continue to be a significant factor in the development of technology.
Surface engineering development problems The most advanced and the most effective direction of the development in surface engineering that meets the industry’s expectations are complex technological processes known as duplex and hybrid technologies.
The conducted analysis indicates the following five main thematic groups in which intensive research work should be done in order to ensure the effective development of advanced surface engineering technology and their effective application in the industry: · Methods for the design and optimization of the properties of the layers and coatings, · Technologies, · Technological equipment, · Consumable materials, and · Organizational systems for the transfer of innovations to the industry. 3.
