While passive and active safety systems such as airbags or belt
pretensioners are mass-produced by now, driver assistance systems, which extend the functionality
of the existing safety systems by supporting the driver in critical situations, gradually find their way
into modern vehicles.
This is one example where the workspace of the robot has to be monitored in a similar fashion by the robot control system as the traffic space of a road vehicle has to be observed by a driver assistance system.
Besides the preparations for the driving tests, driving simulators allow studies with test persons within reproducible traffic and environment scenarios.

In OMA approach the unknown environmental loads (traffic, wind and waves) - that for the traditional techniques the background noise becomes a problem - are used as the basis of the testing and subsequent modal analysis [17].
