Introduction
Combustion synthesis (self-propagating high temperature synthesis, SHS) is a novel technique to produce high temperature ceramic and composite materials.
The process is a highly exothermic reaction within a mixture of reactive powders in a few seconds and can allow for difficult intermetallics materials to be easily manufactured.

The laser selectively fuses the powder materials by scanning 2D layers sliced from a 3D description of the part on the powder bed.
Direct experimental studies are highly difficult to be carried out due to the high temperature conditions prevailing in the material, since most of the materials are metals.
Fig 2 Temperature contour with fusion boundaries The temperature distribution is very important in this study in order to find the depth of heat penetration and also to optimize the parameters for different materials used for SLS, by understanding the physical phenomenon we have an advantage of processing new materials using this process.
