Introduction With the advent of modern computers over the past decades, engineering problems have been routinely solved using numerical methods.
As an efficient design tool, it is playing an increasingly more important role in structural design activities in major engineering disciplines such as aerospace, automotive and material engineering.
ESO appeals to practicing engineers and architects because it can be easily implemented and linked to commercial FEA packages such as ABAQUS, NASTRAN, and ANSYS.
Despite its capabilities, CFD has not yet found many applications in civil engineering.
