Results demonstrate that the microstructure of cast alloys with different modulus are all widmanstatten structure with basket weave features where individual α-laths are separated by a thin layer of retained prior β phase.
High temperature alloy Ti-1100 is prone to generate certain defects during the casting process because of its high chemical reactivity and poor fluidity at pouring temperatures, such as porosity due to poor filling, shrinkage, or dissolved gases; chemical segregation and hence non-uniform properties due to the physical chemistry of solidification [6].
Meanwhile, the special structure components for practical application have different wall thicknesses, resulting in considerable changes of modulus and cooling velocity.
