This process is able to increase the strength of the surface and improves its fatigue properties as a result of the change in the microstructure of materials.

In case of large differences in the melting temperature of the materials the phenomenon of segregation of the alloying materials may occur in the laser melted pool, for example in case of CoCr alloying.
