Preface   Romanian International Conference on Chemistry and Chemical Engineering (RICCCE) is a well known scientific event of the Romanian and foreign chemistry scientists and in this year 2009 the important Meeting comes to its 16 edition.
The aim of RICCCE16 is to provide a forum for presentation and discussion on the main scientific achievements in chemistry and chemical engineering fields and to establish contacts between scientists and companies involved in research, development and production activities.
The Proceedings encloses a selection of 20 papers which will be published in the periodical Key Engineering Materials.
All contributions are peer-reviewed and the volume can serve as a tool for future studies regarding applied aspects of the synthesis and characterization, processing and applications of advanced engineering materials.

These proceedings consist of the fully refereed papers presented at the International Conference on Key Engineering Materials (ICKEM 2011) held on March 25 - 27, 2011 in Sanya, China.
The main aim was to provide an international scientific forum for the exchange of new ideas in a number of fields via in-depth discussions with peers from around the world.
