These proceedings consist of the fully refereed papers presented at the International Conference on Key Engineering Materials (ICKEM 2011) held on March 25 - 27, 2011 in Sanya, China.
The main aim was to provide an international scientific forum for the exchange of new ideas in a number of fields via in-depth discussions with peers from around the world.
Both inward research; core areas of key engineering materials and outward research; multi-disciplinary, inter-disciplinary, and applications are covered in this timely work.

The internal circulation reactor is a new reactor which combines theory with engineering practice, reflecting the current level of development of new anaerobic process. 2.
The IC reactor represents a more advanced level among the high efficient anaerobic reactor at present, having broad application prospects; it is worth further research and development, expanding application areas.

Computing and control are increasingly interesting to both academic researchers and managers in the field of mechanics and industrial engineering.
It is thus essential to incorporate computing and control into mechanics and industrial engineering from the theoretical viewpoint.
This conference provided an idea exchange and discussion forum for the world’s engineers and academics, where internationally recognized researchers and others shared cutting-edge information, addressed the hottest issues in intelligent manufacturing, e-engineering and industrial informatics and explored new technologies and ideas.

Preface
This special issue of Materials Science Forum contains papers presented at the I st
International Meeting on Applied Physics (APHYS-2003), held in Badajoz (Spain),
from 15th to 18th October 2003, and more specifically, selected papers presented
during the conference sessions on Interfaces in Colloidal and Particulate Systems,
Imaging Techniques, Microscopy; Nanoscience and Nanotechnology, Bioengineered
Materials, Applied Materials Science / Solid State Physics-Chemistry / Advanced
and Functional Materials and Semiconductor Materials and Devices.
APHYS-2003 was born as an attempt to create a new international forum on Applied Physics in Europe.
Since Applied Physics is not really a branch of Physics, but the application of all the branches of Physics to the broad realms of practical problems in Science, Engineering and Industry, this conference was a truly multi and interdisciplinary event.
In other word, the Conference was specifically interested in reports applying the techniques, the training, and the culture of Physics to research areas usually associated with other scientific and engineering disciplines.
