Another mechanism was proposed by Gartener et. al (2002) [21] that thin adsorption layers formed by organic compounds of wood wrap the cement grains and hinder the hydration of cement.

Material characterization by SEM is used to see the structure of the surface topography, grain size, structural flaws, and the polluted content of a material.
The SEM results demonstrate that the membrane has better hydrophilicity and a more significant number of holes, implying that more compounds would be separated.

These processes lead to drastic improvement of the following properties of WRC: - increase the density and homogeneity of the structure; - provide high strength of adhesive bond in the system "coating-substrate" at moderate temperature; - form favorable residual compressive stresses in the layers of WRC and reduce level of stresses at the boundaries of the system "coating-substrate", - reduce dimensions of grains in the coating that increase its hardness while maintaining sufficiently high ductility (effect of nanostructure).
