Introduction Due to their current and potential applications in optoelectronics, biotechnology and other areas, spatially confined motions of electrons in low dimensional semiconductor nanostructures (LDSNs), like quantum dots (QDs), have drawn increasing attention of physics and engineering communities [1].
Strain, piezoelectric and thermal effects are being used as tuning parameters for the optical response of LDSNs in band gap engineering.
