In most circumstances, a change in device materials necessitates re-submission of an FDA masterfile and re-initiation of animal and clinical trials amounting to extraordinary monetary and time outlay.
Instead of changing materials, geometrical and surface (interfacial) modulation can allow adjustment to macroscopic parameters (e.g. mechanical stiffness, friction and wear) normally associated with material bulk properties.
Implant jacket versatility allows further adjustments to implant stiffness without materials changes.

Thermoelectric Materials Despite several attempts to find better materials, bismuth telluride, Bi2Te3, and its alloys with Sb2Te3 and Bi2Se3 are the most significant class of thermoelectric materials because they have the highest known efficiency close to room temperature.
