Abstract.
Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) in 1936 to evaluate the performance of concrete in a severe North Atlantic environment.
At the time there were plans for a joint venture between the U.S.A. and Canada to construct the Passamaquoddy Tidal Power Project which would generate about 3 billion kilowatt hours per year; the Treat Island site was to assist engineers in the selection of concrete mixtures for the construction of the necessary hydraulic and water-retaining structures.
