Thermal and Thermomechanical Properties of Refractory Forsterite-Spinel Ceramics NGUYEN Martin1,a* and SOKOLÁŘ Radomír1,b 1Brno University of Technology, Faculty of Civil Engineering, Institute of Technology of Building Materials and Components, Veveri 331/95, 602 00 Brno, Czech Republic anguyen.m@fce.vutbr.cz, bsokolar.r@fce.vutbr.cz Keywords: Refractory Ceramics, Refractoriness, Forsterite, Spinel, Fly Ash, Alumina.
Introduction Refractory forsterite ceramics are widely used in the cement and lime industry as a lining of rotary kilns and in the metallurgical industry as a lining of furnaces and regenerators due to the high melting point of forsterite and its non-reactivity with clinker or iron at high temperatures. [1-3] Forsterite ceramics is also used in electrotechnical engineering for ceramic-metal joints due to its high thermal expansion coefficient, which is similar to the thermal expansion coefficient of metals. [4, 5] As a result of its high thermal expansion coefficient, forsterite has relatively low thermal shock resistance.
