With the continuous development of processing materials, tool materials have been developed from high speed steel, carbide to high performance ceramics, super-hard materials during the past few decades.
Properties of tool materials are improved obviously.
There are many kinds of super-hard cutting tool materials and the most widely used is the diamond tool materials and cubic boron nitride tool materials.

This paper chronicles the inextricable link between materials and design.
These designs broke through the 10 OPR barrier, placing higher demands on materials and motivating the need for dedicated high temperature materials research.
Their slightly higher OPR of 35 demanded similar materials advances.
Another class of high temperature materials is the intermetallics.

The Institute of Materials Science and Engineering of the University of Kaiserslautern (WKK) has a long-time experience on ultrasonic welding of dissimilar materials, for example different kinds of CFRP, light metals, steels or even glasses and ceramics.
Therefore aircraft-related materials are joined by ultrasonic welding.
Fig. 2: Significant influencing parameters for ultrasonic metal welding [5] Ultrasonic torsion welding of aerospace materials The Institute of Materials Science and Engineering Kaiserslautern (WKK) has a broad experience in ultrasonic welding of dissimilar materials, for example metals to ceramics as well as light metals to carbon fiber reinforced thermoplastic polymers.
Selected properties of the investigated materials are displayed in table 1 and 2.
