This study aims at evaluating heavy metal levels in the sediments of the XJR in Changsha section using Igeo and RI Method, which can provide scientific basis for controlling and governing the XJR pollution.
2 Materials and the methods
2.1 Selection of sampling stations
According to the characteristics of the XJR valley in Changsha section and spatial distribution of pollution source, six sample stations were selected along the XJR flow direction: XJR Super Bridge (S1), Houzishi Bridge (S2), Juzizhou Bridge (S3), the Second XJR Bridge (S4), Liuyang River entrance of XJR (S5), XJR Sanchaji Bridge (S6).
2.2 Sample collection and the pre-treatment
Without disturbing of surface sediments, 20cm surface sediments were collected, and then sediment samples were carried to the laboratory within 6 hours, filling in polythene bags.
Based on an overall analysis of Cd, Pb, Zn and Cu RI, pollution levels in six sections were almost as the same as Igeo method result. 5 Acknowledgements This research was supported by the Science and Technology Plan General Projects of Department of Science and Technology of Hunan Province (No. 2010SK3022) and the Opening Foundation of the Key Laboratory of Water-Sediment Science and Water Disaster Prevention of Hunan Province (No. 2010SS04). 6 References [1] Peng Jing, Li Zeqin, Hou Jiayu, Application of the Index of Geo-accumulation Index and Ecological Risk Index to Assess Heavy Metal Pollution in Soils, Guangdong Trace Elements Science, 14 (2007) 13-17

Abstract: It is serious problem of the deficiency of high quality embankment filling in the expressway construction in shanghai, the Yangtze estuary fine sand has been extensive applied as the substitute filling material to avoid destroying the cultivated land and cropland.
The analysis included geometrical and material properties of the slope ratio, the subgrade height, the presence or absence of the surrounding soil and the thickness of it, the top seal coat, pavement structure etc. and proposed the design suggestions of the optimum fine sand filling embankment based on the analysis above.
