The signal (called seismic wavelet or wavelet) from the energy source is sent down to earth, as the signal pass through the interface of different materials making up the layers of the earth, some of it passes, some of it is reflected and the reflection signal (called the seismic trace) is collected by the collector.
A noise-free seismic trace can be modeled as [2] (1) where the error processis the reflection coefficients at the interfaces of different materials and * is the convolution operator.
