Builders, developers and material providers have addressed this demand by creating approaches and technologies that minimize energy, water and main material consumption, decrease greenhouse gas emissions and sustain or enhance surrounding ecological systems and services.
As a result, guidelines and rating systems have sought to assist professionals toward selections that decrease waste as well as negative ecological impacts linked to materials by means of prescriptive requirements for such characteristics as number of recycled content, locally produced or assembled products.
By incorporating a system of components and materials that work in harmony with each other, the objective is to produce an energy-efficient, water-saving structure that has a low carbon footprint.
