Investigation into Attenuation of Underwater Shock Wave by Air Interlayer Using Material Point Method

Article Preview

Abstract:

The performance of air interlayer on attenuating the explosion shock wave is investigated by using the material point method. To verify the numerical method, the detonation process in one water medium only was considered. The numerical results were in good agreement with the data calculated by the empirical formula and demonstrated the effectiveness of material point method. A series of two-dimensional simulations of underwater explosion with the air interlayer were studied. The research shows that the air interlayer can attenuate the underwater explosion shock wave effectually.
