Abstract:

This study adopted the team teaching method with a professional design teacher and a designer from the industry, to guide the freshmen of the Department of Commercial Design of a Technology University enrolled in the 2009-2010 academic year to perform innovative product design for drinking cups. The teaching and learning discussions of innovative design in the curriculum could help the students to think beyond traditional designs and come up with innovative design ideas for drinking cups for product development. The students design ideas integrated professional design esthetics and visual aesthetic elements and can be used as references for operators in the industry for future design and manufacturing, in order to change Taiwans traditional image in industrial design, create new esthetics of the design culture, and improve quality of life with new humane and social technology.
