A Novel Fault Phase Identification Algorithm Based on EMD Transient Energy

Article Preview

Abstract:

Research on analyzing fault signature of transient current energy, this paper proposes a novel approach to select fault phase of transmission lines based on EMD Transient Energy. In this identification algorithm first defines EMD Energy and Relative Energy Coefficient to represent the transient energy of fault current components in each phase. Then the EMD Energy magnitudes among three-phase are compared to sort the fault type and identify the fault phase. Though a mass of tests on EMTP/ATP, the performance of the identification algorithm indicate that the new approach can select fault phases exactly and fast, meet the requirements of automatic reclosing and present an applicable value for actual engineering.
