Analysis of Orbit Transfer Using Tracking Arc and Opportunity Arc of Spacecraft

Article Preview

Abstract:

The selection of the start time for the orbit transfer is not only directly related to its success or failure, but alse determines the fuel consumption and the time it needs. To solve this kind of problem, this paper based on the Lambert theorem studies the numerical solution of the transfer orbit whose starting point and spent time are both uncertain. Firstly, the problem of non-coplanar orbit transfer is converted into a coplanar one. Than, the concepts of the tracking arc of the chaser spacecraft and the opportunity arc of the target spacecraft are described. Meanwhile, the method of solving the tracking arc of the chaser spacecraft and the opportunity arc of the target spacecraft is put forward. Finally, through a concrete example, it’s found that there are close relationships among the tracking arc, the opportunity arc and the maneuvering capability of the chaser spacecraft. The results indicate that analyzing the problem of orbit transfer with the help of the tracking arc and the opportunity arc is easy and effective.
