Lightweighting and Anticorrosion Design for Beach Cleaner

Article Preview

Abstract:

The first generation beach cleaner SWQ18 is mainly made of carbon steel and the unloaded weight is heavy. In the beach test, it occurred such problems as a high fuel consumption and the wheels tend to sink in sand. From the perspective of lightweight material, based on RADIOSS Finite Element Analysis (FEA) module in Hyperworks, the auto-body’s FE model was built. By setting the material as 6061 aluminium alloy and analyzing its body stress and modal, considered the problems that how the aluminium alloy resist the corrosion from the sea atmosphere and its stiffness and strength as well, the result shows that 6061 satisfies the operating requirements and is applicable to the beach cleaner body and a feasible lightweighting scheme taking cost and performance in account was reached.

[6] When the damp atmosphere is dissolved with F-, Cl- and other ions, because of these ions' very small radius and its good ability to penetrate body surface, they can easily destroy the oxidation film and produce corrosive pittings. This demonstrated that aluminium is unresistant to corrosion in the dissolution of chlorides and other halides. For the purpose of improving the body's anticorrosion performance to sea atmosphere, body surface anode under oxidation treatment and polymeric compound coating methods are adopted together to protect the surface to be damaged [7-12]. This method used the aluminium oxide film's compactness to prevent the osmosis of Cl— into the mental metrix and avoid from occurrence of electrochemical corrosion. Moreover, polymeric compound painted on the body surface protect the oxide film in the middle, which strengthen the skin layer's adhesion and corrosion resistance. Anodizing Method for Aluminum Alloy. Aluminum is a reactive mental as well as liable to be inactivated. Once placed in exposed atmosphere it is much likely to generate natural oxide but only as thick as 0. 01~0. 1 μm, the papery film is too thin to play a distinct role in protection. By means of anodizing treatment, this film can be thickened to dozens of microns even hundreds. Anodizing treatment is to immerge the aluminium alloy product as the anode into the electrolytic solution. The solutions are classified as sulphuric acid, chromic acid and oxalic acid solution, but sulphuric acid solution is most commonly uesd. and set up an electric curcuit to carry on electrolysis until required thickness has been generated on the surface. Surface Coatings Crafts. The paint is generally made of arylate or methacrylate, and compounded with vinylmonomer mainly ethlene. The main chain of arylate is carbon-carbon bond, which is steady with sunlight, heat, acid and base. The paint film made from arylate has an excellent outdoors weather resistance properties along with a fine colour gloss retention. Also, it can be seperately served as the main film forming matter and made into various kinds of paints, or be used to modify alkyd resins, chlorinated rubber, polyurethane, epoxies, vinyl resins in turn made into different patterns of modified paints. Use acrylic polyol as the first composition, biuret and HDI trimer and some other polyisocyanate compositons as the second composition, and made into guard coat. In this way, the anticorrosion can be solved effectively. Conclusions Lightweighting design for the Beach Cleaner has an practical importance. It not only solved the problems of big driving resistance on the beach and low working efficiency, and cut down the selt weight of the body from 357. 7kg to 121. 9kg, almost 65. 8%, but also improved the anticorrosion ability and wear resistance by forming a layer of Al2O3 compact flim on the aluminium alloy coating after surface modification treatment. (1) Introduced aluminium autobody to cut the unloaded weight by 40% to 60%, this method refined the fuel economy and working efficiency, and aluminium autobody satisfies the operating requirements of the Beach Cleaner for stiffness and strength; (2) In oder to avoid resonance, adopted the ways of adding horizontal beams and honeycomb aluminium to increase the body's stiffness, this prevented the body's inherent frequency from being close to the vibrating frequency of screening mechanism; (3) Mixing anodic oxide treatment for the aluminium alloy with surface coating crafts can largely reinforce the anticorrosion performance. On the one side, surface coating can protect the oxide film from being damaged, on the other hand the oxide film's compactness will prevent the mental base from being erosed by the sea atmosphere.
