Partial Discharge Detection and Localization of Simulated Cable System

Article Preview

Abstract:

This paper presents the partial discharge detection and localization of degraded insulation within standard test objects and simulated power cable rated 6.2/7 kV. To verify a performance of on-line partial discharge diagnosis tool, the HFCT was used to compare with an off-line measurement tool based on IEC60270 standard. The Time Domain Reflectometry was also applied for partial discharge localization to identify partial discharge position of the simulated cable system in abnormal condition of insulation. The results show a good performance of on-line measurement tool. The methods for both partial discharge detection and localization are suitable for on-line condition monitoring. They can detect very small defects in the insulation, on time maintenance and repair, prevent failure and destruction, and prolong life expectancy of underground cable system.
