Precision Turning with Slender Boring Bars

Article Preview

Abstract:

The paper presents a new method for achieving high accuracy in finish turning with slender tools in turning operations. The method is developed for high-accuracy machining with vibrations-damped boring bars with a length-to-diameter ratio up to 14. The method is based on a three-pass scheme where the deflection of the boring bar is calculated and compensated for in the finishing passes. The method shows very good results for a great variation of cutting conditions.
