Finite Element Optimization Design of the Drum of Storage Winch

Article Preview

Abstract:

In order to make the structure design of winch drum reasonable and reduce the gross mass of winch, the main components of storage winch were optimize designed on the premise of not affecting the safety use of storage winch. By applying the SoildWorks software, the storage winch model was established, and finite element analysis for the model was also carried out by Simulation. The maximum principal stress of drum under the most dangerous operation condition was obtained, and wall thickness of drum, web thickness, web position and hub thickness were all optimized. After the optimization analysis, it was found that the maximum stress on the drum decreased but then increased along with the increase of the wall thickness of drum. Meanwhile, the unreasonable structure was improved and the gross mass of drum of storage winch was reduced. Furthermore, the more reasonable structure design was achieved. The study provided important theoretical basis for the product design.
