The Evaluation on the Suitability of Public Place in Contemporary Urban Design

Abstract:

Based on the cases of public places in foreign and domestic cities, the paper probes into the essential content of some public place from its external form to propose the evaluating standards for suitability. By this, the paper concludes that complexity, diversity and inclusiveness are three key factors and easy accessibility, comfortable physical environment, completed facilities, sufficient greens and well organized space are all beneficial aspects in the transformation from merely aesthetics concern to practical arrangements in urban design. Finally, the paper points out that the existing ecological tendency will create a long-lasting city image which will give new explanation about suitability of the public place.
