Study on a Nonlinear Oscillator of Elastic String and its Application in Energy Harvesting

Article Preview

Abstract:

his paper investigates the nonlinear oscillation of elastic string loaded a concentrated mass in the middle, and vibrating in transverse direction. Through a simple device, free undamped oscillation and forced damped oscillation are studied in detail, which reveals the nonlinear characteristic under oscillation. By tuning the stretch ratio and the initial length of the elastic string, the nonlinear performance can be adjusted in terms of excitation frequencies. This property can be used in energy harvesting from environment vibration, which allows the harvesting device work over a wider range of frequencies and improves the ability of energy harvesting.
