Abstract: The performance of base asphalt and modified asphalt by natural rock asphalt are studied. This paper presents the results from a series of assessments of properties of asphalt binders, which incorporate natural rock asphalts produced from China. Asphalt binders’ properties were measured by penetration, Ring and Ball softening point, ductility and four component analysis tests. Test results showed that the addition of natural asphalt reduces the penetration and ductility value, and increases softening point. The temperature sensitivity of modified asphalt is reduced.

Abstract: BET (Brunauer Emmett and Teller) surface area and pore volume were measured for the samples of HCP by N2 adsorption (–195 °C) with Autosorb-1C (American Quantachrome Company). Both physi-sorption and chemi-sorption of CO2 at a given temperature were also carried out with Autosorb-1C after the samples of HCP had been pretreated in vacuum or helium at a given temperature.

Abstract: Concrete autogenous shrinkage phenomenon would adversely affect the mechanical properties and durability of concrete, this phenomenon is important. Autogenous shrinkage problem of low water-cement ratio of the with high mineral admixtures, cement-based cementitious materials was introduced. The main reason for high-performance concrete early cracking being autogenous shrinkage was pointed out. Based on the home and abroad research status of low water cement ratio of the cement paste and concrete autogenous shrinkage, especially for early autogenous shrinkage phenomenon, the mechanism of autogenous shrinkage and the measure method is presented, and the improvement measures and the possible problems the need for further research work is presented.

Abstract: This study undertook the research of size effect on compressive strength and modulus of elasticity, respectively. The parameters of this study are curing age and fly ash replacement ratio to investigate size effect of Type A (100mm x 200mm) and Type B (150mm x 300mm) specimens in high performance concrete. On this study, high performance concrete was fabricated with different FA contents of 10%, 20% and 30%. The measurements were performed on days 28 and 91.

Abstract: The progressive research upon the issue on renewal technology that can improve the construction industry has initiated the study of Precast Lightweight Foam Concrete Sandwich Panel (PLFP) as an alternative to Industrialize Building System (IBS). This paper reports the analysis of structural behavior of PLFP with double shear connectors under axial load. The PLFP panel consists of two wythes which enclosed a layer of polystyrene layer. Six (6 mm) rebar was used as the vertical and horizontal reinforcement and 9 mm steel bar bent at 450 was used as the connector. Full scaled panel was tested under axial load till failure. It was found that PLFP panel with double shear truss connector has higher ultimate strength capacity compared to PLFP with single shear connectors ehen tested under axial load.

Abstract: Based on the twin shear unified strength theory, considering the impact of the intermediate principal stress σ2 and the different effects of material’ tensile and compressive properties, this paper deduced the axial compressive bearing capacity formula of core column with high strength concrete filled steel tube. Compared the results of the paper with the test, both coincide in good condition. The results show the validity of the formula. The theoretical formula provides a theoretical basis in the project application and design on the core column with high strength concrete filled steel tube.

Abstract: Ancient settlement refers to an agriculture-based village formed by surrounding natural environmental conditions, with agriculture as the main economic activity. As the product of natural adjustment, utilization and transformation, settlement is the crystallization of human cultural development, which significantly reflected local economic development level, local customs, etc. Based on field investigation and analysis of relevant literatures, the paper generalized overall pattern and development course of ancient post road in Jiajiazhuang, and summarized overall layout and functional characteristics of dwellings and temples in Jiajiazhuang with Guoshiqi Courtyard and Temples to the Three Progenitors (Sanhuang Miao) as examples. The paper is of profound significance to the understanding of dwelling architectures in Shanxi, and restoration and protection of ancient settlement.

Abstract: Building decoration of dwellings in Shanxi is taken as the carrier of the ancient history and culture, art and science, having the very high historical, artistic and scientific value, and Ding village in Xiangfen is one of the typical representatives which can show the decoration art of traditional dwellings in Shanxi. The thorough analysis and research is conducted based on field investigation and research, by taking Ding village in Xiangfen as an example, and from the characteristics, types, techniques, and moral of the architectural decoration, which plays a certain guiding role in understanding traditional dwellings in Shanxi.

Abstract: As the most vibrant public open space in city, urban waterfront area provides hydrophilic environment and green corridor, and meets people’s spiritual demand on city. This paper takes waterfront greenbelt space design at Heshun county town as example, and discusses the direction and layout strategy of urban waterfront construction in simple language, which provides the scientific proofs and references for waterfront planning and design to government decision-making department and planning and design personnel.

Abstract: The stay cables in civil engineering are one of the most difficult components to maintain for the safety of bridge after it is open for traffic, as the slenderness ratio is large, and they are flexible, low in damping ratio and less resistant to bending. It is possible that the cable snaps under large cyclic flexural stress due to wind-induced motion, regular traffic or even ambient vibration. The loosening seal of stay cables, damaged anchors, and tendon corrosion due to damaged protection sleeve at the root will undermine dramatically the life of cable-stayed bridge and even its safety. In this paper, the field test used to determine dynamic responses for stayed cable of the bridge in civil engineering. The practice formula is used to determine the cable forces of the Kao Ping Hsi cable-stayed bridge (the largest cable-stayed bridge in Taiwan). The results obtained herein indicate that such analysis is valid and rational, and may be used to monitor the safety of cable-stayed bridge.
