On the Case-Assigning Host

Article Preview

Abstract:

Case theory is a vital means for the information processing of the natural language. Case-assignment depends not only on the tensed INFL, Vt and Prep, but also on the Case-assigning host, which refers to the elements that helps the argument successfully get the Case to satisfy the Case Filter. The Case-assigning host does exist objectively and possesses the cross-linguistic features. ba, jiang, and the expletive, light verb, empty preposition, and empty verb etc are all Case-assigning hosts, which are of importance in that they, as the faithful defensor or the patron saint of the nominal phrases, will come to help when needed and they can make the sentences in danger become safe and acceptable.
