Anomaly of the Course of the Internal Forces of the Ring Slabs

Article Preview

Abstract:

More and more often these days we can see buildings of original shapes, designs and sizes. Buildings with a circular or inter-circular (ring) plan form are no exception. Various combinations of loads or support of ceiling or roof slabs are associated with this, which of course has a fundamental effect on the course of internal forces. The article describes certain anomalies in the course of internal forces connected precisely with the atypical ground plan shape of slab - the annulus. These anomalies were detected by the authors of the article based on the analytical solution of annular slabs, specifically for slabs of an inter-circular (ring) shape. For some types of support and dimensions of the ring slab, unusual courses of bending moments arise, which differ from the expected courses. The mentioned anomalies, or unexpected courses of internal forces must be properly taken into account when designing and assessing structures so that these structures are still safe, reliable and usable.
