Research on Performance of Reduced Web Connections in Steel Frame

Article Preview

Abstract:

Following the Northridge earthquake, widespread damages in connections have been discovered. Then the research on behavior of new beam-column connections has been being a hot spot in recent several years. Non-linear analysis of reduced web connections with circular and rectangular openings in concentrated loading was carried out with finite element method. The parameters were conducted to study the effect of opening ratio, opening style and opening position on bearing capacity. Results show that bearing capacity of reduced web connection reduces with the increase of opening ratio. The opening ratio of reduced web connection takes little effect on bearing capacity when opening ratio is less than 50%. The bearing capacity of reduced web connection with circular opening is larger than rectangular opening if the opening area is equal.
